Hello world! Welcome to this week’s edition of kernel weekly news!

-We start with Matthew Garrett, who has platform-drivers updates,
Greg Kroah-Hartman starts the review process for 2.6.32.44-longterm,
also the same goes for 2.6.33.17-longterm, Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk
has xen stable/bug fixes for 3.1-rc0 (or -rc1), Rafael J. Wysocki
has two pm fixes for 3.1 and David Miller has networking fixes
(crypto and net) .

-Linus Torvalds announces 3.1-rc1 :

It's been slightly over two weeks, but I decided that I wanted to do
the release from home rather than from vacation, so you guys got a few
extra days of merging. And some of you took advantage of it too. Tssk,
tssk.

Anyway, 3.1 is shaping up to be a pretty normal release. Almost 75% of
the patch is in drivers, 12% arch updates, and the rest miscellaneous:
fs, net, Documentation.

Of the drivers, about 40% is in staging, 20% networking, and 10%
sound. With scsi, media, etc bringing up the rear. A good chunk of it
was cleanups. And the good news is that the bulk of staging was
removal. The bad news is that we sure made up for it in other areas ;)

Notable? It depends on what you look for. VM writeback work? You got
it. And there was some controversy over the iscsi target code. There's
networking changes, there's the rest of the generic ACL support moving
into the VFS layer proper, simplifying the filesystem code that was
often cut-and-paste duplicated boiler plate. And making us faster at
doing it at the same time. And there are power management interface
cleanups.

But there's nothing *huge* here. Looks like a fairly normal release,
as I said. Unless I've forgotten something.

Go out and test it. Oh, except right now you are probably better off
not enabling SLUB debugging unless you want to help test it.

                                 Linus

-Greg Kroah-Hartman announces 2.6.32.44 and 2.6.33.17, Rafael
J. Wysocki announces that the pm tree will be renamed to linux-pm
( git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm.git ),
Takashi Iwai has sound updates for -rc2, Pekka Enberg has two small SLUB
updates for -rc1, Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo updates perf/core and
Tyler Hicks updates ecryptfs for -rc2.

-Benjamin Herrenschmidt updates the powerpc tree, John Stultz has
a patch with RTC fixes for 3.1, Ingo Molnar comes up with some new
perf fixes, Con Kolivas releases 3.0.0-ck1, John W. Linville
updates the wireless tree (“This is a little batch of patches
intended for 3.1.

Included is a fix for a typo that incorrectly calibrated an ath9k phy,
a fix for an skb leak in ath5k, a fix for a bus error on some Broadcom
SoC using b43, a fix for a memory leak in wl1251, and another pair
of calibration fixes for ath9k. A handful of device ID updates are
included as well.”) and …

-…I wish you a cool weekend! See ya!
